Squishy Colors
Playing with slime is engaging, fun, and very, very, VERY, messy. Setting up a slime activity does require plenty of time for set-up and clean-up. If you are short on time, but your kids really want to play with slime here is a mess-free version that still provides the satisfying squish factor.
I set this one up to explore primary and secondary colors, but you can do this with a single color as well. Use your imagination because there are tons of variations on this basic idea.
Materials
- Freezer Ziploc bags
- Bottle of clear hair gel – from the dollar store
- Food coloring
- 3 plastic cups
- 3 spoons
Instructions
- Fill the 3 cups with equal parts of hair gel.

- Make one cup red, the second blue, and the third yellow.

- Deposit the three colors in different areas of the bag.

- Seal tightly.
- Squish and explore color mixing in a mess-free, but really engaging way!

The bag also makes a very pretty sun catcher. We held it up to the window just to see what it looked like. Isn’t it pretty?
Variations: add glitter, plastic party confetti, or any other items your imagination inspires you to include in the bag.
What are your favorite ways to modify a very messy or lengthy activity for those days you only have a short amount of time?

Oooh that looks beautiful and so much fun and NOT MESSY AT ALL

Thank you! The zero-mess factor is a double thumbs-up in my book too.
We are still playing with the bag today! It makes the most entertaining noises when you squeeze the bag just the right way.
What a fun project to explore colors! I am pinning this and can’t wait to give it a try with my preschooler. Thanks for sharing such a fantastic idea!
